Milan ready to make the first signing of this summer

AC Milan are reportedly very close to securing Mike Maignan as their first signing of this summer, as the Rossoneri are no longer willing to wait for Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Donnarumma has played 37 Serie A games this season for the Rossoneri. And even he has been given the captain armband in the absence of Alessio Romagnoli. However, his contract with the club will finish at the end of this June.

Milan have offered him a new contract renewal since Christmas. But, the two parties haven’t yet agreed on the salary of the player. So, Milan lined up LOSC Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan as the replacement for Donnarumma.

Some reports were stating that Donnarumma was waiting to see if Milan could secure the top four spot as this was the main objective of the goalkeeper. The young keeper hasn’t featured in a Champions League game and he wants to play in the elite European competition.

What will happen with Donnarumma if Milan sign Maignan?

According to Fabrizio Romano, Mike Maignan completed his medical as a new AC Milan goalkeeper on Tuesday and the situation of Donnarumma will also resolve soon.

The French goalkeeper is going to sign a contract with the Rossoneri until June 2026 with a salary package of €2.8 million per year. And Milan will pay Lille €15 million including bonuses for the transfer fee.

Maignan was the best goalkeeper of Ligue1 this season for the French Champions Lille with 21 clean sheets. And if Donnarumma also decides to stay at the club then it would be an interesting battle between two young top-class goalkeepers.

However, it could create problems for Stefano Pioli to give proper game time for both keepers. Neither of them would want to sit out on the bench and this could create dressing-room unrest for Milan.

It seems to be a busy summer transfer window for Milan following the confirmation of Champions League football next season. They are also looking to sign a young striker as the deputy of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. And they would be looking to resolve the loan situation of Brahim Diaz, Diogo Dalot and Fikayo Tomori as soon as possible.
