Mohammed Nawaz completes move to Mumbai City FC

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Mumbai City FC have secured the move of Mohammed Nawaz on a 3-year deal. The young shot-stopper is a product of the AIFF Elite Academy. Nawaz trained with the 21-man U-17 squad that played in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017. He was not a part of the squad but exposure surely taught him quite a lot.

In 2018, FC Goa roped him into their team when he was just 17. After spending a year with the reserves playing in the 2nd Division I-League he moved to the senior team. From the 2018/19 season, he became a first team regular being backed by his supportive head coach Sergio Lobera.

He was handed his debut against NorthEast United on October 1st 2018. In the 8th minute, he handled the ball outside the box leading to a free-kick which NorthEast converted. The game ended 2-2. However, Lobera started him against Chennaiyin FC the next game and voila! They won 3-1 and Nawaz won the Emerging Player of the Match Award.

Mohammed Nawaz is excited to join Mumbai City FC

Since 2018, Nawaz has made 43 appearances for FC Goa in all competitions. In his first 2 seasons, he recorded 9 clean sheets in 33 appearances. He won the Super Cup and the League Winners’ Shield and will surely cherish his time at FC Goa. A challenge awaits him and Nawaz is ready to dive straight in.

He expressed him excitement in joining a squad like Mumbai City FC and hopes to help them winning more trophies. He is extremely thankful to them for showing faith in him and giving him the opportunity to play with a squad oozing with class. Training is something he is very much looking forward to.

Mumbai City FC were the winners of the Indian Super League last season. They topped the League and snatched the trophy in the final minute of the final from ATK Mohun Bagan.
