Muhammed Nemil and Christy Davis : FC Goa’s powerhouse

Football

Muhammed Nemil and Christy Davis were some of the key players to Goa FC‘s run to the Durand Cup title. The youngsters played their hearts out as Juan Ferrando’s squad bulldozed through the group stages. Their incredible form continued into the knock-outs as they played in harsh conditions to go all the way.

A thrilling semi-final encounter against fellow ISL side preceded the tiring final. Bengaluru FC played out a thriller finishing extra time on the score-line 2-2. The penalty shoot-out went into the feared sudden death as both the camps held their fingers crossed.

After 2 sets of nervy penalties, a young Christy decided to step up to take FC Goa’s 8th penalty. Composure at the highest level ensured that the ball reached the back of the net. Lyngdoh took the next penalty for Bengaluru FC only to see his shot saved by goalkeeper Naveen Kumar.

Muhammed Nemil and Christy Davis are FC Goa’s future

19-year-old Mohammed Nemil scored 4 goals across the all games, one less that Golden Boot winner Marcus Joseph. He played all the games and Juan Ferrando believes that he is up for a spot in the ISL team. Nemil had spent the last 2 years in Spain and Ferrando had an eye on his development all through-out. He was scouted by FC Goa during his stint at RF Young Champs.

FC Goa roped Christy Davis after watching his performance in the GOAL tournament organised by TNIE in 2019. He has climbed up his way into the squad and was amazing in the Durand Cup.

Juan Ferrando feels that the youngster will be a part of FC Goa’s first team in the upcoming Indian Super League season. Nemil and Christy have been impressive throughout the tournament and should be given a good amount of minutes. FC Goa have a really strong squad and it will not be easy though.
