Mumbai City FC 1-0 Chennaiyin FC : The Game

CFC started the match brightly and won their first corner in the 3rd minute itself. However, after a really bright start by CFC, MCFC started to play the possession game. Cassio Gabriel was at the heart of it all and was lively in the middle of the park. The first real chance fell to the head of Igor Angulo in the 9th minute. His header, however, hit the outside of the post after keeper Vishal Kaith rushed out of his line and was caught in the middle of nowhere.

MCFC continued to keep a hold of the possession. 22 minutes in, Igor Angulo was wasteful again as he shot wide from goal after being set up by Jahouh. Chennaiyin struggled to get themselves into the game and were resorting to counter-attacking football since they were barely getting the ball. The first half ended scoreless with Mumbai City keeping most of the ball.

The start of the second half saw CFC create their first clear-cut chance of the match. Lalrinzuala found Gikiewicz with a low cross at the 46th minute mark. However, the latter failed to find his feet and could not get a shot away with Nawaz charging down rapidly to save an easy attempt. The first 15 minutes saw Chennaiyin come back into the game. They managed to keep the ball but lacked the cutting edge in the final third. With the scoreline being 0-0, 3 points were there for the taking. The defending champions, showing their mettle, managed to grab a late winner via Rahul Bheke.

Vishal Kaith charged to claim the ball from a set-piece from Jahouh. However, he completely misjudged and missed the ball. Rahul Bheke made no mistake, guiding it into an empty net and sent the defending champions to a 5th victory this season.
