Niklas Sule to join Chelsea for free

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Bayern Munich could lose another player on a free transfer the contract talks between the club and Niklas Sule have stalled. This however is good news for Chelsea, who could sign the defender for free next summer.

According to SPORT1, the talks between Bayern Munich and Sule are not making any progress. Thus the German could be on his way out of Bavaria and Chelsea are now looking like his next destination.

Chelsea themselves are facing contract issues with defender Antonio Rudiger, who could leave them on a free this summer. If that is the case, the European Champions will surely go for Niklas Sule who is just 26 years old.

FREE AGENT SULE TO MOVE TO CHELSEA

Bayern Munich has been struggling in tying down its players on long term contracts. The club saw the departure of David Alaba on a free this summer and could repeat the same mistake with Niklas Sule in the next summer. Sule has his contract only till 2022 and could sign a pre-agreement with another club from January.

Sule has been ever-present for Bayern this summer after reuniting with his former manager Julian Nagelsmann. However, it was not the same in the last few seasons, with injuries forcing him out of the team most of the time. Yet Sule is highly rated and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is an admirer of the defender.

Chelsea was in the market for a centre-back this summer. They were close to signing Jules Kounde from Sevilla but was put off by the very high asking price. With the contract situation of Rudiger still not clear, the Blues could be left with a big hole in their back-line in the next summer.

The European Champions are also linked with other defenders including Matthijs de Ligt of Juventus. But with Sule available on a free Chelsea could be more tempted to sign the German. As for Bayern Munich, Rudiger has been linked with them and we could end up seeing Sule and Rudiger trade places for in the coming summer. Yet, for the time their priority will be to renew the contract of the 26-year-old.
