NorthEast United FC 2-3 ATK Mohun Bagan FC: Good start for Ferrando

It was a good start for Juan Ferrando as his side beat NorthEast United FC in his new venture as gaffer of ATK Mohun Bagan. His team came from behind after trailing by a goal to win 3-2.

NorthEast United crashed to another defeat with Jamil’s men only managing to gather 7 points in 8 games. They dwell in the bottom half of the table as they have failed to gather any momentum. ATKMB, meanwhile, were able to get their campaign back on track. The franchise has had to adjust to the untimely sacking of Habas and the players reacted well.

NorthEast United FC did not take long to light up the game. Suhair VP continued his fine run of form in front of goal after giving the Highlanders the lead just 2 minutes in. A clever run left him unmarked at the near post and he made no mistake converting with a perfect header. The Mariners responded with proper attacking intent and disallowed the Highlanders any breathing room falling behind.

They applied constant pressure and were rewarded in the form of an error from the opposition keeper. The ball found Roy Krishna and the marksman picked out Colaco at the far post. The youngster finished the job with an incredible looping header to equalize at halftime.

Second Half :

NorthEast United started the second half strongly again and should have made it 2-1 in the 48th minute. Lalkhawpuimawia found himself in front of an empty goal but dragged his header wide after reacting late. Fortunately for him, Amrinder Singh’s mistake went unpunished.

In the 53rd minute, ATK surprised the opposition with a goal. They took the lead out of nowhere after S. Bose set up Boumous for an easy tap-in. The Highlanders were left kicking themselves as they failed to clear their lines in time.

Joni Kauko came off the bench in the 64th minute. The midfielder changed the face of the game and was a dominant force in midfield. Meanwhile, Camara pulled his hamstring. The change tilted the scales in ATK’s favor and afforded them some breathing space.

Kauko put Boumous through on goal who was all too happy to slot home for a brace(3-1). NorthEast United did pull one back in the 87th minute through M. Shereef. However, it was too little too late as they were unable to equalizer in time. It was a thrilling game of football that ATK Mohun Bagan FC won in stunning fashion.
