A brace from Jerry helped Odisha FC script a second-half comeback over defending champions Mumbai City FC. It was the perfect response from Odisha FC after a 6-1 humbling at the hands of Hyderabad FC. Meanwhile, the defending champions have hit rocky road after going winless in 3 matches.
The Nizams now trail Mumbai City FC by 1 point with a game in hand. On the other hand, Odisha FC reduced the deficit to the top 4 to a single point with this win.
Odisha FC 4-2 Mumbai City FC: The Game
Odisha FC started the game on the front foot after taking the lead just 4 minutes in. M. Fall was poor with his footwork and gave the ball away cheaply to A. Suarez. A fine finish from the winger made it 1-0. Mumbai replied within 7 minutes though to level the game. Ahmed Jahouh found himself in tons of space before unleashing a venomous shot. The keeper had no chance as the score read 1-1.
Mumbai regained confidence with their equalizer and started to dominate proceedings. A free-kick from Jahouh found Igor Angulo, who made no mistake nodding home for 2-1. Kamaljit Singh made several saves to keep Odisha FC in the game at the stroke of halftime.
Second Half
The Kalinga Warriors managed to recoup in the second half and made it count. Jerry positioned himself perfectly to meet N. Sekar’s cross and level things for Odisha. 7 minutes later, he bagged a brace with a thumping finish after being set up by Jonathas.
Jerry then repaid the favor to Jonathas by setting him up for Odisha’s 4th goal. A brilliant cross from Jerry found Jonathas who guided the ball into the net to give Odisha all 3 points.
