Ousmane Dembele could Join Chelsea as a Free Agent next summer. Reports have suggested that the FC Barcelona Forward might reject offers from other clubs to join the Premier League outfit. The Catalonians are currently in a very tough situation as they are out of the later stages UEFA Champions League. They have gone down to the Europa League from the group stages after crashing out against Bayern Munich last night by 3-0.
The last time FC Barcelona played in the Second-tier of European club competition was back in 2003-04. They will be playing Europa League football for the first time since it was the UEFA Cup Two decades ago. Lionel Messi made his debut for Barca in 2004-05 and since then it is for the first time that they will not proceed to the next rounds of the Tournament with Messi leaving the club for PSG just 4 months ago.
Meanwhile, Dembele’s current deal will expire at the end of this season. The 23-year-old will become a Free agent next June and he is free to hold discussions with foreign clubs at the start of 2022. There is no agreement between Ousmane Dembele and Barca regarding a contract extension. This might allow him to sign a pre-contract with any other club during the January transfer window.
Clubs like Manchester United, Newcastle United and Juventus are also looking to bring Ousmane Dembele on a free next summer.
THOMAS TUCHEL’S RELATIONSHIP WITH OUSMANE DEMBELE AT DORTMUND MIGHT BRING HIM AT CHELSEA
Ousmane Dembele has worked closely with Thomas Tuchel in Germany in the Bundesliga. Tuchel joined BVB Dortmund as their Head Coach in 2015 to succeed Jurgen Klopp at the Signal Iduna Park. The 24-year-old Forward arrived at Dortmund in 2016 on a Five-year Deal but FC Barcelona signed him the very next year.
On 25 August 2017, Barcelona announced that they had reached an agreement to sign Dembélé. The La Liga giants signed him for €105 million-plus a reported €40 million add-ons. According to Mundo Deportivo, the presence of Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea could lead to the attacker making the move to Stamford Bridge.
Barcelona allegedly suspects that Tuchel is behind Chelsea’s interest. The German managed Dembele at Borussia Dortmund during the 2016-17 campaign, and the pair are said to have a strong relationship. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old has only made four appearances for his current side during the 2021-22 campaign. He picked up a hamstring injury after working his way back from a long-term knee issue.
