In a spectacular kickoff to the 2023-24 season; NorthEast United set the field ablaze with an impressive victory in their opening match of the highly anticipated Durand Cup. The Highlanders roared to a commanding 4-0 triumph over local rivals Shillong Lajong; shining a spotlight on the brilliance of their rising star, Parthib Gogoi.
Stealing the show after an exceptional 2022-23 season; the 20-year-old dynamo left fans awestruck as he notched his very first senior career hat-trick in a dazzling display of skill and determination.
The curtain raiser came at the half-hour mark when Rochharzela showcased his flair with a magnificent run, unleashing a sublime curler. The goalkeeper’s valiant attempt to parry the ferocious strike inadvertently set the stage for Parthib; who seized the moment with precision, propelling his team into the lead.

The young superstar did it again in the second half! He got the ball from a really accurate pass on the right side. Parthib Gogoi just used a gentle touch to guide the ball into the goal, showing how good he is at playing and how calm he can be.
And then, something even more exciting happened! NorthEast United worked together to make a really cool play from the middle of the field. Romain Philippoteaux made a fantastic pass that went to Jithin perfectly. Jithin then passed it to Parthib in a very nice way, and Parthib scored his third goal, making it a very special hat-trick!
The scoring tableau was further embellished by Romain; who confidently converted a penalty awarded to NorthEast United in the opening half. The collective brilliance on display left the spectators in awe.
