Pep Guardiola hits back at journalists for lack of questions on Manchester City winger

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was forced to highlight a lack of questions on Jeremy Doku. The pacy winger joined the club from French side Stade Rennais in the most recent summer transfer window. He has been a refreshing addition to Manchester City’s front-line during the first-half of the new season, despite a few question marks on him being at Man City’s level.

Doku’s ability to beat defenders one-on-one with ease has added a different dimension to City’s attack. This has ensured a range of options at the disposal of manager Pep.

Injury put a break on the winger’s incredible start to life at Man City

Doku’s unstoppable start to life with Manchester City was unfortunately cut short by a muscle injury. He suffered the injury during the 3-3 draw against Tottenham last month.

Speaking during a press conference, after Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over Sheffield United in the Premier League, Pep Guardiola was asked for an update on the injury of Jeremy Doku ahead of a crunch phase of the ongoing campaign.

“Yeah, nobody asked me about Jeremy, just Kevin and Erling, Kevin and Erling, Kevin and Erling,” Pep responded. “It’s soon. Soon I think he’s back,” the Manchester City manager continued. “They (medical staff) are a bit cautious because he’s so explosive, one-against-one, and muscular, but I think for the next weeks he will be ready. I hope so.”

Manchester City won’t rush Doku back

Man City take on Huddersfield Town in the Emirates FA Cup third round at the Etihad Stadium this weekend. They’ll then travel to St James’ Park for a meeting with Newcastle in the Premier League.

Manchester City officials may deem it necessary to avoid rushing Doku back for either of the upcoming matches, instead allowing for a greater rest period and bringing the player back up to speed during their warm weather training camp in Abu Dhabi later this month.
