Player Profile: Abhijit Sarkar

Abhijit Sarkar, the Bandel-born boy who has been brought up in a very poor family, is going to be a future star in Bengal football. 2017 FIFA U17 world cupper Abhijit is now playing for I-League side Mohammedan SC. Recently, Abhijit scored a brace against Tallygunge Agragami in a Calcutta Football League match.

Career Highlights: Abhijit Sarkar:

Abhijit Sarkar started his youth career at the AIFF Elite Academy. Later in 2017, Abhijit represented India’s U17 side in the FIFA U17 World Cup. Abhijit, who did not make any notable impact in the World Cup, played a total of 10 matches for the U17 Indian team.

After the World Cup, Abhijit played in the I-League for the India Arrows. After his impressive performance with the Indian Arrows, Abhijit was signed by Hero ISL side Chennaiyin FC. But Abhijit did not get game time to express himself on the stage of the ISL.

In his time with Chennaiyin FC, Abhijit was loaned out to the Indian Arrows and East Bengal. During this time, Abhijit could not perform according to his ability and faced a lot of troubles. Later in 2021, he signed for I-League club Sudeva Delhi FC and spent a season with the team.

Before coming to Mohammedan SC, Abhijit was playing for another I-League side, Real Kasmir FC.

Career Stats: Abhijit Sarkar:

The 23-year-old Bengali striker has played 20 I-League matches for the Indian Arrows, in which he scored five goals. During his loan stint with East Bengal, Abhijit played seven matches for the century-old club. The versatile attacker also played in 15 I-League matches, in which he also scored two goals.

This season is going to be very crucial for Abhijit. As he is very eager and focused to get back his lost rhythm and wants to play in the ISL as well as for the Indian National Team.
