Player Profile: Samad Ali Mallick, the captain for the Black Panthers this season

2021–22 I-League Runners-up Mohammedan SC signed West Bengal-born right back Samad Ali Mallick on June 15, 2022. This year, the Kolkata-based club named Samad as one of their club captains. With experienced foreigners and talented Indians, Mohammedan SC has formed a strong squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Career Highlights: Samad Ali Mallick:

The 28-year-old versatile defender started his youth career at Calcutta Football League side Rainbow AC. Later in 2015, Samad Ali Mallick joined East Bengal FC as his first professional club. Samad spent six long years at the century-old East Bengal club.

Samad has the experience of playing in front of the huge fanbase of the East Bengal club. He has played in the I-League, Durand Cup, and Hero Super Cup for East Bengal FC. During his stint with East Bengal, Samad soon became one of the coach’s most dependable players on the defensive line.

After leaving East Bengal in 2021, Samad signed for fellow I-League side Punjab FC. But Samad soon left the club and joined another I-League club, Sreenidi Deccan FC. Later in 2022, Samad Ali signed for the Black Panthers.

Career Stats:

Samad Ali Mallick played a total of 42 matches for East Bengal. Playing for the Red and Gold Brigade, he also scored a goal and provided three assists.

Samad has eight appearances for Punjab FC and three appearances for Sreenidi Deccan FC. Playing for India U23 in 2016, Samad also won a silver medal in the South Asian Games.

Samad basically plays as a right back. But Samad can also operate as a right winger or a centre back. Samad has quick speed, a good first touch, and a decent passing range.

Samad is effective in one-on-one defending, can dribble past his opponent, and can provide swinging crosses to his strikers moving through the flanks. Besides, Samad’s huge experience helps him to be a good captain.
