Liverpool are looking to bolster the defence with Alessandro Bastoni to compete for the Premier League title.
The injury problems in the defence of Liverpool are well known this season. And how much Virgil Van Dijk can replicate his old form after a horrible ACL injury is a big question. Hence, they identified Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni as one of the top targets this summer.
The 21-years-old center-half is yet another product of the famous Atalanta academy. Inter Milan bought Bastoni in 2017 for €31 million from Atalanta. They then sent him back on loan to Atalanta, he had another loan spell at Parma in the 2018-2019 season.

Is Bastoni the answer to the problem Liverpool are facing?
Bastoni got his first-team opportunity for the Nerazzurri in 2019 under Antonio Conte. This season he is one of the most consistent defenders in Serie A and caught the eye of everybody.
It won’t be easy to buy the young Italian International from Conte’s side as he is the first-choice defender. Another issue could be that the Italian players don’t like to go abroad to play, they want to play in Serie A.
Bastoni has made 32 appearances for Inter Milan this season. They could potentially win the Scudetto this year after 11 years. They have a 9 points lead on AC Milan who sit 2nd.
The left-footed 6’3 center-back got his international debut in September 2020 and has made three appearances for the Azzurri. It is expected he may be named in Roberto Mancini’s squad for the Euros.
Liverpool will have to fight very hard to bring the highly-rated Italian defender to Anfield as other European rivals like Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also in the race for him.
