As it stands, it looks like Arsenal will narrowly miss out on the Premier League title once again. They are currently one point ahead of Manchester City but the latter have a game in hand. Come the summer, the Gunners will have to further improve on their squad if they want to go one better next season.

For that, sporting director Edu and Arteta are widely expected to focus on strengthening three positions: left-back, a midfielder to partner Declan Rice and center-forward.

Parlour explains why Arsenal should go all-out for Newcastle striker

One of the many names on Arsenal’s number 9 option is Alexander Isak. Former Gunners star Ray Parlour is convinced that the Swede would be worth every penny. The Arsenal Invincible told Football FanCast: “Isak is the type of player who could do well in this Arsenal team. He will suit Arsenal’s fluid style of play and can do well in this team with the likes of Saka, Martinelli, Havertz, Trossard and Odegaard supporting him.

“It’s important to have quality strikers as we had in our era with Wiltord, Kanu, Henry and Bergkamp. However, Newcastle will not want to lose their top striker.”

Earlier reports suggested that the 24-year-old would cost around £80 million. However, Newcastle are determined to keep him and Arsenal would have to pay a fee close to £100 million, according to Parlour.

He added: “Fee wise, he will be similar to Rice’s fee. So if Newcastle are forced to sell, then yes he would take Arsenal forward. Isak is a player I like a lot.”

Ray Parlour gives his opinion on PFA Player of the Season

Parlour said: “If you look at the signing of Rice, he is exactly what the team needed when Granit Xhaka left and he has taken the club to another level. Declan has been a top signing for Arsenal and it’s great he is still playing at such a high level when it matters most at the business end of the season.

“His energy is great, he plays every game. His goal against Bournemouth typifies his drive and energy during the game. He deserves to be up there for PFA Player of the Season. It was a big move for him and he’s settled immediately into this team.”
