About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Real Madrid managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Chelsea in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal. Christian Pulisic scored an early goal for the Blues which was canceled out by Karim Benzema in the 29th minute. With this draw, all eyes would be in the 2nd leg at Stamford Bridge next Wednesday!

Let’s have a look at how the Madrid players fared in this match!

Real Madrid vs Chelsea: Player Ratings

Thibaut Courtois (7/10) – He had a brilliant match against his former club and delivered a crucial save after a thunderbolt attempt by Timo Werner. He was rock solid in defence keeping the London attackers at bay.

Raphael Varane (5/10) – The Frenchman wasn’t focused and was clumsy while defending. He could have easily cleared Pulisic’s goal. Hence, an overall frustrating night for him as he also picked up a booking.

Dani Carvajal (5/10) – He too was having a bad day after a poor passing accuracy that created problems for the hosts.

Eder Militao (7.5/10) – Eder had been brilliant for the past few matches and was able to put up another impressive performance. Additionally, he was doing his job as a replacement for Sergio Ramos pretty nicely. He was rock solid in defence winning several tackles.

Nacho Fernandez (5/10) – Another frustrating night for him as he wasn’t performing his prescribed defensive duties well.

Marcelo (4.5/10) – There was clearly a lack of creativity and inventiveness from him. He didn’t get back to his best in such a crucial match.

Casemiro (5.5/10) – Although he was a bit less focused, he was instrumental in Benzema finding the back of the net.

Luka Modric (6/10) – The Croatian was tired and it really affected his performance in the match. The midfield trio were less impressive as compared to their previous matches.

Toni Kroos (6.5/10) – The main work engine of the Madrid club was a bit defensive as he had to look up for Marcelo, who was also having a bad game. However, Kroos did develop some sparks of greatness in the second half.

Vinicius Junior (5/10) – He underperformed in such a big match and lacked the cutting edge to finally find a breakthrough.

Karim Benzema (7.5/10) – The French striker fought like a one-man army although scoring an acrobatic goal but still there’s a bit controversy about him being offside. The visitors were unlucky after conceding such a goal. He deserves to be the Man of the Match for the Galacticos.

Substitutes :-

Eden Hazard (5.5/10) – Not a good reunion against his former club but still deserved more playing time. He failed to make an impact in this key encounter.

Marco Asensio, Rodrygo and Alvaro Odriozola cannot be rated as their playing time was very less.
