Rostyn Griffiths extends his contract with Mumbai City FC by one year

Football

Rostyn Griffiths has signed a one-year contract extension with Mumbai City FC. Extending his time with the Islanders through the end of the 2023–24 season.

Mumbai City’s incredibly successful season last year, when they broke all previous records to win the Indian Super League Winners’ Shield 2022–23, was greatly influenced by the 35-year-old. He has 28 tackles, 14 interceptions, and 43 clearances in 17 games during his first season with the Islanders. The Australian centre back stood out. In a thrilling 2-2 draw early in the season with ATK Mohun Bagan, he also scored a pivotal goal.

Griffiths was an important part of Mumbai City’s staunch defence. That allowed only 21 goals in 20 games and enabled the Islanders boast one of the league’s best defensive records.

Griffiths is an English native. He began his professional career with Blackburn Rovers. Before moving to Australia to play for Adelaide United, North Queensland Fury, and Central Coast Mariners. He then had stints with Pakhtakor Tashkent (Uzbekistan), Roda JC (Netherlands). Moreover played for Perth Glory (Australia), and Guangzhou City (China), where he had considerable success. Griffiths joined fellow CFG team Mumbai City FC in July of last year. After spending four years with Melbourne City FC in the A-League. When he once again worked with head coach Des Buckingham.
