Roy Krishna will captain the Mohun Bagan squad that will face FC Naser in the interzonal semi-finals. The skipper believes that his team is ready for the challenge even though they will be missing key players. Hugo Boumous and Tiri were not in the 22 member squad. This meant that Joni Kauko made it into the squad for the very first time.
Mohun Bagan had a brilliant first season in the Indian Super League as they finished 2nd in the league. They narrowly lost to champions Mumbai FC after conceding a last-minute goal. Their efforts qualified them for the AFC Inter-Zonal Cup. They made it past the group stages and now will face the nervy knockout stages.
Roy has played in a host of different tournaments throughout his career. From the A-League to the FIFA Club World Cup, the Fijian has played it all. In the Indian Super League, he has an impressive record of 28 goals and 9 assists in 38 games. Ahead of the clash, he gave an insight into the atmosphere surrounding the much-awaited game.
Roy Krishna does not underestimate
Roy believes that Naser FC will give Mohun Bagan a difficult test. Any team that has made it this far into the tournament would surely have worked their way up there. The team has been focusing on this game for months and thus Roy feels that the Mariners will give all that they have at Uzbekistan.
In what he thinks was his biggest lesson from the games so far, he does not underestimate either his team or the opponent. Football is all about chances seized and not chances created. He admitted that he would be heavily marked by the opponent’s defence but will try to do his part by scoring from every chance he gets.
