Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch is facing a tough situation. Manager Koeman recently revealed the Euro 2024 qualification squad, excluding Gravelbrech. This decision could be connected to Gravenberch declining a call from U-21 coach Michel Reiziger earlier. Koeman and Reiziger don’t seem too happy about it.
Gravenberch said no to playing for the U-21 team, and now it looks like it has consequences. Both Koeman and Reiziger left him out of their teams. Reiziger stated that considering a call-up for Gravenberch wasn’t even on the table now.
While speaking to press Koeman said:
“It was not an option to call him up now. The signal has now been sent to him. We have a certain opinion about players who opt out of the Dutch Juniors or Oranje. Moreover, Gravenberch has not played much at Liverpool yet.”
Koeman’s senior team has upcoming matches against the Republic of Ireland and Gibraltar for Euro 2024 qualifiers. On the other hand, Reiziger’s U-21 team has important games against Gibraltar and Sweden with a chance to qualify for the Euros early. It seems like Gravenberch might have to work hard to get back into the manager’s good books.
Bolo Zenden’s suggestion for Ryal Gravenberch
While speaking to altindex.com Former Liverpool and Netherlands midfielder Bolo Zenden said:
“I think it’s important to play regular football if you want to showcase yourself for the national team.”
Further, He added:
“Gravenberch is coming from his Bayern situation, and if he can become important to Liverpool, I’m sure the door will open for him in the national team.”
“As a player, you’re faced with the fact that you play in a well-stocked position. The Netherlands hardly have any strikers, and they’re more likely to get a call-up if they play well.”
“We have players [in midfield] like Joey Veerman and Tijjani Reijnders, Frankie De Jong, and others. Our team can go on and on! We have quite the selection of midfielders, and I think Ryan Gravenberch should focus on playing well at Liverpool and the national team will come calling.”
