After a setback to host Bangladesh, India will want to get its SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship campaign back on track against Bhutan on Sunday.
India started their campaign with a 4-1 win over Nepal on Monday, but failed to find their shooting boots in a 0-1 loss against Bangladesh on Friday.
During a very dull first half, India picked up the pace but couldn’t hit the back of the net due to poor finishing and some heroics from the opposing goalie.

Finally, Akhila Rajan’s headed own goal 16 minutes from time gave Bangladesh the lead, which they maintained until the final whistle.
“It was a hard result to take. The girls played well in the match, but because of a defensive mistake, we conceded the goal. We also couldn’t convert the chances we got,” India head coach Priya PV remarked.
Priya emphasised the need for improvement before of the last two games, saying,, “We need to improve on our attacking and passing. In the last match, we failed to create enough chances in the scoring third. We also need to do better in the build-up.”
Bhutan, India’s opponent, sits at the bottom of the five-team rankings. They are with three defeats (1-8 to Bangladesh, 0-5 to Nepal and 1-9 to Russia). As a result, Priya’s team will try to add on the agony for the Bhutanese and enter the decisive final match against heavyweights Russia on a high note.
“We will go all out in the next two matches. We will try to improve on our last performances and score more goals,” she ended.
