Sandesh Jhingan-The return of the Phoenix

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Sandesh Jhingan is perhaps the most celebrated Indian Centre back. Having started his career at United Sikkim the young player rose to prominence while playing for Kerala Blasters FC.

After that, he joined ATKMB and then moved on to join HNK Sibenik in Croatia. But an injury left him with no other option than to return to India and to join ATKMB again in the January Transfer window.

But with the addition of Sandesh Jhingan, the defense looked much strong and it helped the club to reach the ISL playoffs.

He played 8 matches in this season’s ISL and in each match his performance was just brilliant. He kept 3 clean sheets in the 8 matches and holds a passing accuracy of 81%. Also, he has 12 interceptions and 31 clearances which proves why he is such a terrific player. Also, his ball distribution was excellent throughout the season which helped ATKMB in their attack.

Despite winning ATKMB kicked off from ISL playoffs

This season has been a roller coaster ride for the ATKMB. In the first leg, ATKMB lost 3-1 against Hyderabad FC. The goal margin could have been far more if Sandesh Jhingan and Jony Kauko didn’t give such a brilliant performance in the back and midfield respectively.

In the 2nd leg match, from the very first minute, ATKMB was in an aggressive mode. But multiple times they failed to score due to constant missing of opportunities by the strikers. Hyderabad kept its defense intact and played on a counter-attack strategy.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad goalkeeper Kattimani gave a brilliant performance at the back and resisted ATKMB players from getting their name on the scoresheet.

Finally, Roy Krishna broke the deadlock in the 79th minute but it was too late. ATKMB won the match by 1-0 but they failed to qualify due to an aggregate advantage of 3-2 to Hyderabad FC.
