According to an official press release by Real Madrid, Sergio Ramos has decided to leave the club this month as a free agent after his contract expires. This is the end of an era as the club captain will not be wearing the royal white shirt after a long 16 years of service at Real Madrid.

It was already rumored earlier that Ramos and the club were facing a problem regarding his contract renewal. The captain tabled an offer to stay two more years at the club with a 10% raise in his wage. But, Madrid offered him only one year with a pay cut in his salary. However, a few days back, Ramos decided to take the club offer and stay one year, but the time for accepting the contract expired.

And as the time of the contract renewal expired Real Madrid announced that Ramos will be leaving the club this summer, on Wednesday. Los Blanco’s released a press statement that Ramos will not be renewing his contract at Real Madrid. The club had also arranged a special farewell ceremony on Thursday to appreciate the long service of the club legend.

However, Sergio Ramos has still not commented on which club he would join for the upcoming season. But Ramos has cleared that he will not be joining his former club, Sevilla. It was rumored that Sevilla offered a five-year deal to their former player with a high table position after five years. However, he has been strongly linked with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United over the past few months.

Sergio Ramos will be leaving Real Madrid as a club legend

Sergio Ramos joined the Galactico’s as a promising talented center back, and the player went to become a club legend for Real Madrid. Los Blancos were forced to sign Ramos after his promising performance for Sevilla during his two years stay. Madrid paid €27 million for the center-back, which was a record deal for a Spanish player at the time.

Following his debut in the royal white shirt, Ramos has gone to were it for a record 671 times, while scoring 101 goals for Madrid in 16 years. In his long journey for the Whites, he has gone to win 22 trophies with Real Madrid. In which he has won the Champions League 4 times while winning La Liga 5 times in his career.

The club captain has rescued his team on several occasions while producing some iconic moments for the Madrid fans. But, the best as per the Madriastas will be the iconic late equalizer by a headed goal against Atletico Madrid in 2014 Champions League. Which later finished with Real Madrid lifting the Champions League Trophy for the 10th time.

However, sadly he would be leaving the club with a bad patch on his back. Ramos was only able to appear 21 times this season while scoring 4 goals due to injury. He was last seen in the white shirt in the Champions League semi-final against Chelsea which ended in a defeat for Madrid.
