Sergio Ramos is out of the Spain squad

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Sergio Ramos is not your average defender. The Spaniard is one of the best defenders this generation has seen. His performances and leadership for Real Madrid led them to a record number of UCL titles. Ramos was part of one of the most glorious eras of the Real Madrid team. The 36-year-old has won everything there is to win in football and is still going strong. He is now part of a superstar-studded PSG team who are dismantling teams every week. His departure from Real Madrid was not under the best circumstances. Florentino Perez realized it was time that changes should be made at the club.

Ramos is one of the first names on the team for Galtier. Alongside Kimpembe and Marquinhos, Ramos forms a scary 3 man defense for PSG and will look to lead them to glory. But one thing that has not gone well with the legendary defender is missing out on Spain’s squad. The defender is very disappointed with this news as he expected to be called up by his nation. His former teammate Marco Asensio is called up by Luis Enrique. But Ramos missing out certainly has raised some eyebrows around Spain. He may not be what he was a few years back but Ramos is still a brilliant leader and performer on the pitch.

Last season, he spent most of the time on the sidelines. But recently, he is looking in good shape. He has played in 11 games for the Parisians. PSG are even considering renewing his contract with his great performances on the pitch. The likes of Ansu Fati and Thiago Alcantara has also missed out. It does make everyone think if Luis Enrique has gathered his best squad for the upcoming matches. Some are even saying that the best IX of the players left out can beat the Best IX of the players Enrique has selected. But the coach does not feel the same and in the end, the decision lies with him.

Can Ramos be there for the World Cup?

The media posed questions to the former Barcelona man about snubbing out the likes of Ramos, Fati, and many more. Enrique was not interested in getting into controversies but did say that it is not over yet for any player. Luis said:

The door is not close for any Spanish player available for selection. I do not know the percentage of these players which will be at the world cup.

On Ramos’s snub, he said:

It is great news that Sergio Ramos can return to the pitch after 18 months of injuries. Now he is doing it in a continuous way. I can say to you what you want but I think I have called the best players in his position.

Certainly, the Real Madrid man would do everything possible to be at the World cup. It will surely be the last of what we see of Ramos on the international stage.
