Siva Sakthi : Sensation To Skipper

India

Siva Sakthi is given the captain’s armband for the upcoming U-23 Asian qualifiers. Let’s look in to learn more about the new Captain.

Siva Sakthi’s Rise To Prominence

Siva Sakthi Narayan, the young striker from Karaikudi. Sprang out of nowhere during the past two seasons and quickly rose to prominence.

In 2020, the teenage striker signed with the BFC reserve squad. He then made an impression during the next Durand Cup season. Scoring three goals in five games to gain promotion to the senior team in April 2021.

Siva had to be patient during his debut season with the team. He only made seven appearances in the Indian Super League. Nevertheless, he managed to score once in two games during the AFC Cup group stage.

Siva Sakthi discovered his real potential the following season, scoring six goals and dishing out two assists in 17 appearances in the ISL while scoring five goals in just six Durand Cup games. The teenager even found himself starting ahead of Roy Krishna and Sunil Chhetri, two of Indian football’s greatest players.

Coach’s Trust and Decision

The head coach had previously determined that Siva Sakthi would be the team’s captain when Miranda announced the final roster before the competition. The coach also said

“It was really a simple decision to make. There are two types of leaders: ones who talk and motivate the team by being vocal and aggressive, and then there are players like Siva who motivate everyone around them through their actions. If you purely go by the merits of his tactical and technical abilities and understanding of the game, he is too good.

“Moreover, I needed someone who would impose my philosophy on the pitch with their actions, and this boy is perfect. He is also the only Indian who actually plays as a striker in the ISL, and he had a fantastic season. There was really no doubt about it in my mind.”
