Skipper Kromah nets double, Peerless SC wins the CFL Opener

Peerless SC and Kidderpore FC locked horns in the opening fixture of the CFL Premier Division ‘A’ 2021 at Mohun Bagan Ground on Tuesday. Liberian Stiker and skipper Ansumana Kromah netted twice handing Peerless SC their first win in the new season of the league. Defending Champions Peerless had an easy 4-1 victory over Kidderpore SC.

Kinderpore scored the first goal of the season in the third minute as Nigerian striker Emmanuel made no mistake to convert on the low cross from Deepak Mondal.

Defending champions Peerless SC managed to equalize in the 8th minute through Pankaj Moula. Saikhom Ronald Singh found Pankaj Moula inside the Kidderpore box with a through ball. Moula took a shot and hit the ball straight to the Goalkeeper Debapriya Das. However, the opponent custodian made mistake and the ball went straight into the nets after deflecting from him.

Peerless took the lead of the opener fixture in the 23rd minute when Md. Aftab Alam scored from a deflected ball. Saikhom Ronald Singh from the right flank sent in a cross inside the Kidderpore box for Akash Mukherjee. Akash hit the ball hard that went straight to the Kidderpore wood bar and deflected back to Alam. Alam easily converted on the easy chance.

Skipper Ansumana Kromah helped Peerless to double the lead in the 39th minute. The opponent’s defense made mistake by not clearing the ball. Kromah stepped on and netted his maiden goal of the day.

Both teams went to the dressing room as the halftime whistle signaled with Peerless having the advantage of 2 goals.

Meanwhile, Kidderpore SC missed capitalizing on a golden chance after halftime. Md Farid hit the ball straight to the woodbar.

Peerless got a stronger grip in the match as Kromah netted his second goal of the day in the 70th minute. A rough tackle by Deepak Mondal in the Kidderpore Box brought down Kromah. Peerless were awarded a penalty on which the Liberian striker capitalized.

Peerless will next face the Aryan club at the Mohammedan Sporting Ground next week. While Kidderpore will lock horns against George Telegraph at the Howrah Stadium.

ATK Mohun Bagan who are also in Group B are likely to miss the ongoing CFL season as the club is currently competing in the continental level at AFC Cup.
