Due to paternal duties, Sunil Chhetri has asked for a leave from AIFF and head coach Igor Stimac to spend this special time with his family. The captain’s request is granted, and he is now on a break to enjoy his fatherhood. Due to his leave, Sunil Chhetri will not be participating in the King’s Cup but will be available for the Asian Games.
Sunil Chhetri announced his wife’s pregnancy:
During the Intercontinental Cup, Chhetri announced news about her wife’s pregnancy. After scoring against Vanuatu, he ran to the technical area and also showed a baby-bump gesture to his wife. Moreover, in the post-match interview, Sunil Chhetri said,
“Me and my wife are expecting a baby; this is how she wanted me to announce- it’s for her and the baby. I just hope we get all the blessings and wishes.”

The Indian National Football Team captain, Sunil Chhetri, and his wife, Sonam Bhattacharya, have been blessed with a baby boy. On August 31, Chhetri welcomed the newest member of his family. Particularly, the new-born baby is healthy with no noticeable deformities.
