Teun Koopmeiners joins Atalanta on deadline day

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

AZ Alkmaar midfielder Teun Koopmeiners has left the Dutch side to join Atalanta on Tuesday’s deadline day.

The Dutch midfielder joined the AZ academy back in 2009 and grew up through the ranks. The 23-years-old made his senior debut back in 2017 against Feyenoord. He is a goal-scoring deep line midfielder and also captained the Dutch side at this young stage. The Netherlands international scored 15 goals and 5 assists in 31 league appearances last term.

According to the report, Koopmeiners joined Atalanta on a permanent deal for around €14 million. The midfielder signed a five-year contract with Gian Piero Gasperini’s side and will be looking forward to flourishing at Bergamo alongside fellow countryman Martin De Roon.

Koopmeiners leaves AZ Alkmaar and joins Atalanta:

The 23-years-old has showcased his talent in the Eredivisie and will be looking forward to carrying his form for Atalanta as well this term. The young man has scored 43 goals in 154 appearances in all competitions, which is very impressive for a defensive midfielder.

La Dea always has an eye for purchasing young talents around the world and signing the Dutchman is another example of that. The young man is an all-rounder in midfield. He can score goals from direct free-kicks and is efficient in providing defence-splitting passes. The midfielder also can tackle in the middle of the park and has an eye for long-range shooting.

Koopmeiners is surely a great coup for Atalanta on deadline day. Other than De Roon and Remu Freuler, Gasperini’s side did not have many recognized defensive midfielders. So, signing the 23-years-old for a feasible price is a great business for the Serie A side.

After having a stellar couple of campaigns, the Dea’s will be looking to keep their progress in becoming one of the heavyweights in Italian football. However, it will not be easy for Gasperini’s side to replicate the same success this term.
