About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Thomas Tuchel took charge as the Chelsea head coach replacing Frank Lampard with just a few hours left for the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. He has an impressive Win percentage of around 75.6 % at Paris Saint Germain.

The Blues losing 5 matches out of their last ten matches under their former coach Lampard led to the imminent sack.

However, let’s have a look at five things you might have not known about the new Chelsea Boss!

1. Thomas Tuchel began his coaching career aged just 27!

Surprising, isn’t it? However, it was a difficult decision after a string of injuries and eventually retiring aged 24 years.

However, he got the perfect training and perfect exposure to young players. VFB Stuttgart appointed him as their youth coach in 2000.

In 2000, he aided in the development of many brilliant players like Mario Gomez. He also won a U-19 Bundesliga title with Mainz 05 youth team.

He even broke into the senior team as their head coach nine years later! Ralf Rangnick inspired him to be a coach rather than wasting his years as an injury-prone player.

2. He helped a newly-promoted Mainz to 9th place and 5th place in the Bundesliga

After the appointment as senior head coach of Mainz, Tuchel impressed by leading his team finish at a decent 9th place in his first ever season.

However, Mainz finished at 5th place in the Bundesliga in the following season. Promising talented players like Lewis Holtsby, Christian Fuchs, and Andre Schurrle among the rest.

3. Thomas Tuchel – replaced his favorite manager Klopp twice

Tuchel twice replaced Jurgen Klopp as the head coach. The first was in 2009 for Mainz and then in 2015 at Borussia Dortmund.

However, Klopp believed that Tuchel would be his perfect replacement at Dortmund.

“Not just because he’s a really good manager, but he was on the market, and I thought if we don’t announce it now, then he might sign for another club, and I wanted him to become the manager of Dortmund.”

Pep Guardiola also seems to be impressed by Tuchel. However, the Chelsea fans would be keen on Tuchel facing his favorite managers!

4. A Model, a Barman and a Graduate!

Tuchel was also a very hardworking individual off the pitch! He used to work as a barman while playing as a defender so as to earn a living!

He also completed a Business Administration graduation apart from the football manager that we know about him!

Tuchel also worked as a model in 2017 in the New York for a German magazine “Die Zeit”.

5. Julian Nagelsmann – a former player under him!

Yes, you have heard it right! Current RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann had a similar fate as compared to Tuchel.

Nagelsmann was said to scout by Tuchel after he was injury-prone and a knee surgery. Both the managers are tipped to be the future of football managers.

“Thomas told me I should try becoming a coach in case I couldn’t play anymore. He had a feeling that I might be talented, due to the way I thought and spoke (about the game). He said I should definitely give it a go.”

Both the young tacticians are the fan-favorites at Chelsea. The last time they two met, Nagelsmann emerged winner over his master.
