A recent comment made by Thomas Tuchel seems to have angered the hierarchy of Borussia Dortmund. The Chelsea manager was speaking about Dortmund player Erling Haaland and the possibility of signing the Norwegian next summer.

Speaking to Bild, Tuchel was asked about his clubs’ interest in Erling Haaland. The German admitted that the 21-year-old is one of the best players and Chelsea could come back for him in the next transfer window. However, Dortmund has taken this comment as the “first public attack” to attract their player.

Borussia Dortmund faced a humiliating 4-0 loss to Ajax away from home in their Champions League group match. The club has been trying to persuade Haaland to sign a new deal. This is a reason why the comment from Tuchel has made Dortmund angry.

Thomas Tuchel and Borussia Dortmund have a not so happy past relationship. Tuchel replaced Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund as their manager, however, he was sacked after the relationship became sour. There were ongoing issues between Tuchel and the management, especially over the transfer activities.

But Tuchel has since gone to attain great success with PSG and now with Chelsea, winning the Champions League with the latter last season. At the beginning of the summer, Tuchel was backed by Chelsea in the transfer market as the club searched for a new striker.

Erling Haaland was one of the main names. However, his enormous prize tag made the move unfeasible as Chelsea spend their money on Romelu Lukaku. Now when asked about Haaland, Tuchel showed his admiration about the Norwegian. He even suggested that the Blues could reignite their interest in the 21-year-old.

Haaland has a release clause of €75 million that gets active from 2022. Dortmund is not ready to let go of their talismanic striker who has been electric in front of the goal. This is a reason why the latest comments from the Chelsea boss was not taken lightly by the club.

Dortmund does not want other clubs to speak publicly about their players, especially when the club is trying to renew the contract. The past relationship also could be a reason for them to speak against Tuchel.
