Thomas Tuchel wants Andreas Christensen to Renew his contract with Chelsea

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Thomas Tuchel wants Andreas Christensen to renew his contract with Chelsea. The Blues Head Coach is eager to keep the Denmark International at Stamford Bridge. Tuchel has reportedly called on Christensen to show his commitment to Chelsea by signing a new long-term contract. Meanwhile, the Blues are currently on top of the Premier League table with 30 points.

Reports in the past indicated that Christensen is disappointed with his wages at Chelsea. Meanwhile, according to Spotrac.com, the Danish International earns £4,160,000 per week but he is still one of the Lowest-earners at the Club. The 25-year-old and his representatives have been discussing with the Blues hierarchy for several months now. There were rumours in the past suggesting that Christensen is keen on a move away from the European Champions.

However, there is no agreement between the two sides and they are both trying to extend his terms past the end of this season. Andreas Christensen has mostly found himself on the bench this season. Tuchel has acknowledged that he is growing frustrated with the lack of progress behind the scenes.

Andreas Christensen came on as a Substitute for Chelsea during the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League final earlier this May. Christensen replaced Thiago Silva in the First-half with the Blues winning their second UCL title, thanks to a goal from Kai Havertz.

However, Tuchel could bring Andreas Christensen in for Chelsea’s match against Watford on Wednesday.

WILL ANDREAS CHRISTENSEN SIGN A LONG-TERM CONTRACT WITH CHELSEA AS TUCHEL WANTS HIM TO FIGHT FOR HIS PLACE

Thomas Tuchel has said he hopes dropping Andreas Christensen will convince the Centre-back to extend his contract at Chelsea. Christensen’s contract will run out at the end of this season and his future is in doubt after negotiations over an extension have taken a Halt. The European champions thought that an agreement on a four-year deal with a one-year option was close to being agreed upon. But both sides failed to reach an agreement.

Meanwhile, Chelsea recently returned with the offer of a three-year deal, hoping that Andreas Christensen would sign but frustration is growing after talks stalled again. The Denmark international has not featured for Chelsea since 6 November and Tuchel knows the 25-year-old will be free to talk to foreign clubs about a pre-contract agreement from 1 January.

“My understanding was that it was a matter of a very short period before we had good news. As I understood it, the club wants the same, the player wants the same, the coach wants the same: to stay. That’s why for me it was a zero-problem situation, but we are waiting a long time now for confirmation and it’s on Andreas to act. How he acts on the pitch, he needs to act now off the pitch and walk the talk because he tells us that he loves Chelsea.

said Thomas Tuchel to the Guardian

“He tells us that he wants to stay. He is a big part of a big club and I think he is a perfect fit and I think his career here is by far not finished, but, like I said, it’s on him. We want the commitment and hopefully we get it.”
