Tomori Unlikely to Build his Place Into the In-Form AC Milan Team

Chelsea Defender Fikayo Tomori joined Serie A side AC Milan on a season-long loan deal this Friday.

Tomori was a go-to defender in 1st half of the Premier League season under manager Frank Lampard but due to an injury suffered in a Champions League game against Lille was sidelined.

The 23-year-old was unable to find a place in starting 11 under Lampard and this season after the arrival of Thiago Silva and also went down the pecking order under Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma, and Andreas Christiansen.

Milan have included a buy back clause of around £25 million.

AC Milan Squad and How Tomori Will Fit?

The San Siro side has many center-backs in their squad Simon Kjær, Alessio Romagnoli, Mattia Gabbia, Mateo Mussachio, and Pierre Kalulu. Skipper Romagnoli and Kjær are currently first-choice center-backs. While Gabbia, Mussachio, and Kalulu provide back up options for Stefano Pioli.

Tomori stated that his childhood idol was Paolo Maldini and was a big influence in his move to Milan. AC Milan legend Maldini now their technical director at San Siro.

He also added the reason to pick jersey no. 23 as he is 23-year-old and also wanted to follow a top athlete and basketball legend Micheal Jordan who also was famous for wearing no. 23.

The current form of Milan also was a key factor in getting this deal over the line. Milan are currently at 1st position in league table with 43 points in 19 fixtures.

Tomori made his Milan debut against bitter rivals Inter in Copa Italia due to an injury suffered by Kjær.

Tomori is a promising young talent who has immense potential and also provide as a long term option for Serie A in case they decide to make this deal permanent.
