Top Five Ligue 1 players Set to Leave this Summer

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

The Ligue 1 started in an unusual manner as the defending champions weren’t looking comfortable. The big losses to Marseille and Monaco lead to the fact that Lille or Lyon would be winning the title soon.

But, under their newly appointed coach Mauricio Pochettino, the 2019-20 Champions League finalists got back on track. Finally, a recent massive win against Lyon gave them a major boost, and thus, the club is leading the table right now.

However, they are level on points with Lille and are just three points ahead of third-placed Lyon. Thus, the title race is not over yet!

Paris Saint Germain are reportedly allowing their crucial players to go in the summer transfer window. Whereas Lyon are also letting two players to leave. Let’s have a look at where would be the possible destinations for all these players.

Angel di Maria – biggest of the top five Ligue 1 transfers

Angel Di Maria joined PSG from Manchester United after an unimpressive performance in the Premier League. However, since then, he has turned into a crucial player for the club.

The 33-year-old midfielder has scored 87 goals in 251 appearances for Les Rouge et Bleu. His contract expires on June 30, 2022 and the Argentine hasn’t signed an extension yet. Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus are reportedly interested in signing him if he doesn’t renew his contract at Paris.

Memphis Depay to join Barcelona

FC Barcelona are leading the race to sign Memphis Depay. The Catalan club is considering a deal involving him and Georgino Wijnaldum from Liverpool. The 27-year-old striker has been a favorite for his former national team coach, Ronald Koeman.

Depay joined Olympique Lyonnais, similarly to Di Maria, after a disastrous season for the Red Devils. Other clubs interested in signing him are Juventus and PSG but the Lyon President is confident that the Dutchman would stay at his current club.

Julian Draxler another big name leaving Ligue 1

Julian Draxler is another key player for the Parisians. The German hasn’t renewed his contract which expires this summer. He joined PSG from German club VFL Wolfsburg in the 2016-17 season.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder has assisted 36 times and scored 24 goals in 163 appearances for the French giants. Currently, he has caught the attention of clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool. However, the Gunners are emerging as the frontrunners in this race.

Houssem Aouar finally joining Arsenal?

Houssem Aouar came from the Lyon youth academy to the senior team. The French player made his debut as a 19-year-old in a 4-1 away win to AZ Alkmaar in 2017. He has two more years for his contract expiry.

The 22-year-old midfielder is one of the key players contributing to their recent form in the French league. He has scored 30 goals in 163 appearances for Lyon. Hence, clubs like Arsenal and Juventus are in the race to acquire his services and the former club might be the ultimate winners.

Boubakary Soumare to Manchester United on the books

Another brilliant player leaving Ligue 1 is Boubakary Soumare. His playing style is comparable to the style of Paul Pogba and currently plays for Lille. Additionally, the 22-year-old French midfielder is one of the key figures for the recent stellar success achieved by the club.

Les Dogues are currently sitting at 2nd place in the league on level points with current leaders, PSG. However, Soumare has been valued for around €35 million and clubs like Arsenal, Leicester City, Leeds United and Manchester United are in the race.

Leicester City have been after him since the January Transfer window.
