I-League, TRAU 2-0 Chennai City FC: Post-Match Analysis

TRAU won by 2-0 against Chennai City FC at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan stadium in the 16th match of the I-League.

The Manipur based club started their I-League campaign with 3 consecutive draws. Their recent win over Chennai rewarded them the first three points of the ongoing season. With 6 points, TRAU is ranked second in the league standing.

While Chennai City FC moved down to 10th place with three points in their name.

TRAU head coach Nandakumar Singh made two changes in their lineups and used them in a 4-5-1 formation. Defender Soraisham Dinesh Singh replaced Naresh Singh and midfielder Seiminmang Manchong replaced Laishram Milan Singh.

Whereas Satyasagara made three changes in Chennai City lineups. Defender Tarif Akhand took the place of Vladimir Molerovic, Goalkeeper Kabir Toufik replaced Aryan Niraj Lamba, and lastly, midfielder Varun Mathur replaced Rajesh S. They played with the same 5-3-2 formation.

TRAU 2-0 Chennai City FC Match Analysis:

TRAU adopted a high pressing style, restricting Chennai City FC into their own half and forcing them to play out from the back.

Bidyashagar Singh had an opportunity to score in the 4th minute but he took a volley from outside of the box and the ball went over the bar. TRAU kept building pressure on the opponent.

Chennai had a golden chance to take the lead In the 43rd minute when midfielder Elvedin Skrijelj’s headed off a corner kick that went inches over the bar. Both teams ended goalless in the first half.

The first goal came in the 49th minute when forward Joseph Olaleye ran onto the right flank after spinning through his marker. He took a powerful shot and Elvedin Skrijelj came forward to clear it but the ball went to the nets after making a contact with his thigh.

After conceding the first goal Chennai perceived the pressure as they barely get chances and their attacks were successfully neutralized by the opposition custodian.

TRAU doubled their lead in the 69th minute, Bidyashagar Singh slotted the ball to the left corner of the post.

For the rest of the second half the Lions dominates and takes over the possession but they could not manage to infiltrate through the opponents’ defense. While TRAU executed counter-attacks.

By the end of the match, Kabir Toufik TRAU custodian manages to keep the clean sheet.

Notable Performaces:

Khangembam Bidyashahar Singh: He was awarded the Hero of the Match Award. The Manipur forward scored the second goal to seal the game in TRAU’s favor.

TRAU to face high flying Churchill Brothers FC Goa on 29 January(4 p.m) at Kalyani Municipal Stadium. While Chennai City FC plays against Indian Arrows (7 p.m) on the same day.
