Wolfsburg closing in on Championship winger Danjuma

FINANCIAL FAIR PLAY

VfL Wolfsburg are leading the race to sign Dutch winger Arnaut Danjuma. The 24-year-old is currently playing for the Championship side AFC Bournemouth.

Reports emerging from Germany suggests that Wolfsburg consider Danjuma as their main target. The club could be willing to bring in the winger on an initial loan deal.

Wolfsburg finished 4th in the Bundesliga table last season and hence have qualified for the UEFA Champions League. Danjuma is one of the targets for the club to strengthen their squad before the coming season.

DANJUMA AND WOLFSBURG DUTCH CONNECTION

The Dutch winger made his move to the English side of Bournemouth, back when they were in the Premier League. But Danjuma only featured 14 times in the Premier League mostly as a substitute, before the club got relegated to the Championship.

However, Danjuma was impressive for the Cherries in the Championship in the 2020/21 season. He made 33 appearances in the league last season and scored 15 goals for his club. The winger also scored 2 goals in the Championship play-offs, but could not help his side for a promotion.

Wolfsburg on the other hand are in preparation for their return to the UEFA Champions League. The club is hence looking to add depth to their team, especially in the attacking area. Joining Wolfsburg will allow Danjuma to not only play in a better league but also feature in the Champions League.

The 24-year-old could also be tempted by the presence of Dutch presence in the Wolfsburg team. Both the new boss Mark van Bommel and the club’s main goalscorer Wout Weghorst is from the Netherlands.

Wolfsburg started their new Bundesliga campaign with a victory over new comers VfL Bochum. The club will face Hertha Berlin on Saturday for their next match.
