Football

ATK Mohun Bagun stopper Amrinder Singh has faith in the strength of his squad to perform well in the 2021 AFC Cup and ISL 2021/12. He trusts his team’s potential to win both tournaments.

The Mariners play FC Nasaf in Uzbekistan in their inter-zone semi-final AFC Cup tie on September 22. Then, they kick off their ISL campaign on November 19 against Kerala Blasters FC at the PJN Stadium, Fatorda.

Singh, who lifted the ISL trophy with Mumbai City FC last term, is hoping for a strong showing in both contests.

Amrinder Singh positive ahead of FC Nasaf tie

Ahead of the FC Nasaf tie, the official ISL website quoted the goalkeeper: I want to give my best in every game and keep clean sheets. If we keep clean sheets, then we won’t lose games and that will help us win the ISL and AFC Cup. We have a great squad that is capable of winning the AFC Cup and I would do my best

The Indian team goalkeeper is calm before facing FC Nasaf. The team from Uzbekistan is one of the strongest in the distinguished Asian continental club competition.

He continued, saying: No matter who the opponent is, we always train hard and give our best. In the game against Nasaf, we will do the same. Every game is equally important for me

Singh is satisfied with the Mariners’ preparations and training, currently going on in Dubai. He is impressed with the facilities provided. The 28-year-old is fully aware of Nasaf’s capabilities and believes the training will greatly benefit them.

Amrinder is no stranger to the AFC Cup hurdle. He was the man between the posts for the Bengaluru FC team that made 2016 final. However, Bengaluru FC were unable to cross the final obstacle at the time. This time though Amrinder is aiming for redemption.

The ATK keeper was asked to compare the Mariners and ISL title holders Mumbai City FC. He responded by saying that both were top clubs in Indian football. Mumbai had players like Hernan Santana and Mourtada Fall.

On the other side, ATKMB credit Carl McHugh, Tiri and a number of other Indian players. He went to express his confidence with such players who have proved themselves in the ISL.
