Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin was one of the villains in his team’s 2-4 loss against Girona. Thibaut Courtois was unable to join the team due to gastroenteritis. Therefore the 24-year-old custodian took the responsibility to protect Real Madrid net.

Lunin might prepare for summer exit as
As it turned out, Lunin allowed four goals, all of which came from Valentn Castellanos. This is not an assertion that the Ukrainian was entirely to blame. Real Madrid’s defence almost rolled out the red carpet for Girona. What’s more, only five of Girona’s 13 shots on goal on the evening were on target, with four of them finding the back of the net. And, to be honest, Lunin was nowhere near saving those shots.
The 24-year-old’s performance aroused concerns about his future at Real Madrid. While his current contract extends until 2024, a recent Mundo Deportivo narrative indicates that he could depart the white club this summer. Interestingly, Lunin was on the verge of leaving Madrid even last summer, but ultimately decided to stay. Lunin has only made 12 appearances across all competitions this season due to Courtois injury. However given his performances, particularly against Girona, the management might make a tough decision.
Despite facing an uncertain future, Lunin wishes to extend his contract, but the club’s coaching staff has concerns about his abilities. The management believes that after being guided through his areas of weakness, the athlete has not progressed on certain subjects. Now, most Real madrid players likes Lunin in the locker room. So while he is conscious of his flaws, he needs more time on the field to improve. However Courtois’ presence will prevent him from doing so. Given his contract status and the coaches’ concerns, an exit in the summer could become a reality.
It remains to be seen how Real Madrid will handle this situation, as they risk losing Lunin for free next year if his contract is not renewed.
