Arsenal legend praises Kai Havertz for his immense performance

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has awarded Kai Havertz the title of man of the match for the Arsenal team. That is in their latest Champions League win over Lens. Merson thinks of the summer signing as a vital player currently performing with tremendous confidence.

Merson, during his commentary on Sky Sports, went on to suggest that Havertz excelled even when not playing in his preferred position. This acknowledgment signifies a notable turnaround for the Germany international at Arsenal. That is after initially facing challenges in adapting to life at the Emirates Stadium.

Havertz required some time to hit his stride. But he finally notched his first goal from open play for the Arsenal team last weekend.

In a manner akin to the adage about buses that don’t show up for ages before two arrive at once, the 24-year-old has now scored in two consecutive games. Havertz initiated the scoring for Arsenal against the French side, finding the back of the net in the 13th minute of the match.

The 24-year-old seized the opportunity to bundle the ball home from close range, with the shot ricocheting off the underside of Bryce Samba’s arm. This came after a header from Gabriel Jesus into his path. Havertz also played a pivotal role in Bukayo Saka’s third goal, proving to be a constant nuisance for the opposition. Importantly, he appeared to relish his time in red and white, showcasing a sense of enjoyment on the pitch.

What did Arsenal legend Merson say about Havertz?

Merson said:

“Havertz is a confidence player and he’s playing with confidence right now. I thought he was the best player on the pitch tonight. He was elegant, he picked the right passes and made the right decisions. He’s a top player. I don’t think he’s playing in the right position but he’s still a top player.”

Merson has previously expressed his opinion that Havertz should be deployed in front rather than way back in midfield. Regardless of positional preferences, there’s no denying that Havertz is a quality player, a sentiment that Merson has affirmed. Thus, acknowledging the German’s consistently high level of performance.
