AS Roma join AC Milan in the pursuit of Sasa Kalajdzic

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Interest is increasing for the VfB Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic from Serie A. AS Roma have entered the race to sign the Austrian international as they join AC Milan.

This is according to Calciomercato who reports that the Italian clubs are interested. The interest has increased after Kalajdzic’s performance against Italy in Euro 2020.

Milan showed interest in Kalajdzic as they wanted to provide an attacking pair to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However, Stuttgart is demanding a transfer fee of €25million for their centre-forward.

ROMA AND MILAN AFTER KALAJDZIC

Serie A looks like a possible destination for Kalajdzic as both AC Milan and AS Roma are interested in the striker. AC Milan are in need of reinforcement in the attack. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is 39 and cannot start all the games. The other option is Rafael Leao, who is could be sold this transfer window.

Signing a new centre-forward is hence top of the priority for Milan. The club have kept tabs on Kalajdzic development in Bundesliga. But any transfer seems to have cooled down as Milan are looking at other targets. This includes the likes of Olivier Giroud and Czech striker Patrick Schick.

This has opened the doors for AS Roma, who will be looking to rebuild under new boss Jose Mourinho. Edin Dzeko has been the major goal scorer for the Italian side but is 35. The club will try and sign a new centre-forward, especially if they can sell Dzeko in the summer.

IMPRESSING IN BUNDESLIGA

Kalajdzic has captured the imagination of multiple clubs after his good performance in Germany this season. The Austrian scored 16 times in the Bundesliga this season from his 33 appearances.

The 23-year-old is a huge presence on the field with a height of 200cm. This makes Kalajdzic an excellent aerial threat and a threat in indirect set pieces. He is also a strong finisher and likes to lay off the balls for his teammates.

Kalajdzic also impressed in his Round of 16 performance against Italy in Euro 2020. He came in as a substitute in the match and scored the only goal for Austria, also being the first person to score against the Italians in 10 matches. Contracted with Stuttgart till 2023, Kalajdzic could be available for a fee of €25million.
