Aston Villa hold talks with Leicester City striker who helped them win promotion

According to sources, Aston Villa chief, Monchi, has held talks with Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho. He met with the player’s representatives in Greece before Villa faced Olympiakos in the Europa Conference League semi-final second leg this week.

It was reported earlier that the Nigerian international rejected Leicester’s attempt to extend his current deal. Iheanacho’s current deal is set to expire this year in June.

The striker helped the Foxes win the Championship this season and secure promotion to the Premier League.

Villa could sign Iheanacho for free on the back of a frustrating season with Leicester

After getting relegated last season, a lot of key players left the King Power stadium. But Iheanacho decided to stay and help them earn promotion to the Premier League. However, it has been a frustrating season for the 27-year-old. While the goal of earning promotion has been achieved, the Nigerian didn’t play a significant role.

Many expected him to play week in, week out, and be among the top scorers of the English second-tier, but he only managed 6 goals in 26 appearances from a total of 46 games that the Foxes played.

Aston Villa looking to bolster their attack going into the next season

Iheanacho saw a reduction in the gametime in recent weeks. He now looks set to bring his seven-year spell at the King Power to an end. And Aston Villa have made their interest known about signing him for free.

Emery is looking to add to his attacking options ahead of what he hopes will be a season in the UEFA Champions League for the Villans. But it won’t be as straight-forward since they will certainly face competition. A few Premier League teams and some other top clubs across Europe will be interested in Kelechi Iheanacho’s signature.
