ATK Mohun Bagan signs Shabong

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

ATK Mohun Bagan have completed the signing of Ricky Shabong from Indian Arrows. The 18-year-old midfielder would be joining the Kolkata club on a multi-year deal as per IFTWC.

Shabong might also be heading to the Maldives for their AFC Cup campaign once his VISA is arranged. Additionally, he could be joining the Indian Super League after two years at the Indian developmental squad in the I-league.

Although the departure of Jhingan would be a major concern, the Mariners are gearing up for the next season. Bengaluru FC might join Group D alongside the Kolkata giants if they get past Club Eagles on Sunday.

Shabong could be the next young sensation for ATK Mohun Bagan

Ricky Shabong joined Indian Arrows during the 2018-19 season. However, he couldn’t join any big club. But now, as per the above mentioned source, he could join the 3-time ISL winners.

The Meghalaya-born central midfielder made his debut with Royal Wahingdoh FC and then moved to the young Indian developmental side. Additionally, he was a key member in India’s U-16 as well as U-19 squad in AFC U-16 championship (2018) and AFC U-19 Championship qualifiers 2020.

After failing in the pursuit of highly-rated Apuia Ralte, they could still land another promising youngster in the form of Shabong. He could get very well exposure alongside quality midfielders such as Hugo Boumous, Joni Kauko as well as Lenny Rodriguez.

Additionally, he could be heading the young squad alongside players such as Liston Colaco, who joined from fellow ISL club Hyderabad FC. The Mariners are currently training in Kolkata for their preparation for their maiden AFC Cup campaign. They also face Bangladesh champions Bashundhara Kings as well as Maziya SC in their group stage.
