Barcelona shows interest for Alexander Bah, Benfica right-back

The 25-year-old right-back joined Benfica from Slavia Prague last summer. Bah has established himself as a regular on the right side for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finalists. Bah has played 39 games in all competitions this season, scoring one goal and six assists. This appears to have put the eight-time capped Danish international on Barcelona’s radar.

It is no surprise that the right-back position has been a source of tension inside the Blaugrana camp. Manager Xavi Hernandez has shown ‘interest’ in signing Juan Foyth from Villarreal. Although a deal is complex because to his €54 million release clause. Joao Cancelo is on loan at Bayern Munich from Man City. The Portuguese is also a target but he will be expensive to buy. As a result, according to the report, Bah has emerged as a possible inexpensive alternative for Barcelona as the summer approaches.

However, the Danish international’s deal with Benfica is set to expire in the summer of 2027. And the Portuguese titans are known for demanding full value for their stars as evidenced by the transfers for Joao Felix, Darwin Nunez, Ruben Dias, and Enzo Fernandez, among others.

As a result, reports of interest in Bah is ‘a pinch of salt’ for the time being. Given this, Barcelona is very keen in signing Lionel Messi and a new forward,Vitor Roque. Hence the right-back position may take a backseat. In that case, Xavi will rely on Jules Kounde and Sergi Roberto, like he has done all season.
