Barcelona and Busquets to part ways in 2023

Barcelona

Barcelona are a changed sight now. A club which was struggling to pay the wages of its players is now once again the biggest in world football. It was a brilliant transfer window for the Catalans as they conjured up some really important signings. It finally looks like they are back to their very best under coach Xavi. They have had a brilliant start to their season with just one loss coming against Bayern Munich. The Blaugranas have scored the most goals in La Liga and have also held the most clean sheets. As good as the attack is, the defense also seems to be very secure this time.

But the addition of new players has made life very difficult for the veterans. Jules Kounde has made a fantastic start to life at his new club Barcelona. He is now one of the first names on the team for Xavi ahead of the 35-year-old Gerard Pique. Jordi Alba is also suffering from the lack of game time as Balde has made a fantastic start to the season. But one player that is still quite important for the Blaugranas at such an age is Sergio Busquets. Arguably the best Defensive Midfielder in the history of football, it is nearly impossible to replace Busquets. The Spaniard has quality and intelligence that no one has ever possessed and this season will be his last.

As reports say, Sergio Busquets has communicated to the club that he will be leaving in 2023 as a free agent. The 33-year-old has won everything there is to win in football and plans to relax and play in USA. Inter Miami are the team interested in Busquets and if things go alright, Busquets will be in Miami next season. Busquets felt that it was now time for him to leave and let the youngsters thrive and take the club to the top. After around 15 years of service for the club, he leaves as a player the club and the fans will always miss.

Xavi targets Zubimendi as Busquets’s heir

Veterans stepping back and youngsters stepping up, the scenes have changed with Xavi around. With now Busquets confirmed to be leaving, Xavi has already made up his mind over the ideal replacement for the legendary Spaniard. Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi is the chosen one by Xavi. Zubimendi’s current contract with Real Sociedad runs until 2025 and Barcelona will have to pay around €60 million to get his services.

Xavi is very impressed with Zubimendi’s handling of the ball in the park. At only 23 years of age, Zubimendi is a great leader on and off the pitch. Barcelona really needs leadership next season. He is physically strong with his calmness on the ball reminiscent of Busquets. Moreover, he is really good in one on one challenges also. Zubimendi was linked with the Catalans for a long time. But now the club believes it is the right time to go for him.
