2021 was the year when Lionel Messi moved to PSG as a free agent. This was arguably the biggest free agent signing in the history of football. Big things awaited the little genius in the French capital with his friends playing in PSG also. However, the Argentinian did not have an easy start to life at his new club. Last year was not the most fruitful for Messi and PSG as they were humiliated in the UCL by Real Madrid. However, they won the Ligue 1 which was the least they had to do. Messi himself had a disappointing first season hitting his lowest-ever goal tally. The 7 time Ballon d’Or winner admitted that it was difficult for him to settle down in the first year.
But this season things look to take a big turn. Messi has started the season in fine form. PSG are looking in ruthless form with Mbappe, Neymar, and Messi leading the line. The Parisians have strengthened themselves in various positions this summer. It is finally looking like they can be worthy winners of the UCL. Lionel Messi is racking up assists in fun and is the main playmaker of the team. He has had a great start to the new season as the nerves have calmed down. Leo is finally enjoying his time in Paris but it might come to an end really soon.
Barcelona have again established contacts with Messi’s entourage about a possible return to the Catalans in 2023. His contract with PSG runs out next year and he becomes a free agent. PSG is looking to extend it as soon as possible, but La Pulga will make a decision only after the World Cup. Xavi is excited about the idea of having Messi back and has already had talks with him. Barcelona are ready to adjust the team if they bring in Messi next year. It is no doubt that he is still the best player in the world on his day. He is in a very inspiring form now and makes Argentina a big favorite for the WC.
A deserved Farewell for the G.O.A.T
Lionel Messi and Barcelona go hand in hand. Nobody would have imagined in their wildest dreams that he will ever leave the way he had to from his beloved club. But circumstances were so that it did not take long until Barcelona realized that he cannot stay. A heartbreaking departure that got the world in tears, Messi never deserved this. The greatest player of all time deserves to get the whole Camp Nou to sing his name in his final game just like the old days. Whatever happened is past and Leo will always love Barcelona.
But it will be a mission to mark the legacy of President Laporta. Fans clearly were upset when Messi left and their hatred towards their President was understandable. But now is a chance to get in the driving seat for Joan and his team. If they manage to bring Messi to Barcelona, it will surely be the biggest and the most heartwarming homecoming story of all time.
