According to several reports, FC Barcelona has drawn their interest upon AS Monaco’s left-back Caio Henrique. The Catalans were linked with the youngster earlier in May. But now it seems Barcelona is pretty confident in signing Henrique as a replacement for Jordi Alba.
Henrique started his footballing career with Brazilian giants Santos in 2016. But later that year he was signed by Atletico Madrid for their Under-19 squad. He went to spent time with the club’s Under-19 side for the first couple of years.
After spending two years in Spain, the defender was sent on loan spells away at Parana, Fluminense, and Gremio. While he managed just one first-team appearance for Atletico before signing for AS Monaco last summer.
Henrique joined the Ligue 1 side for a sum of €10 million. Since joining the defender has become a regular starter for the team. The 23-year-old defender has gone to appear 36 times in which he has contributed with five assists.
The part played by Henrique for Monaco this season is very commendable. He helped the French side to finish third in the league table after years. Following this impressive performance, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are in line to sign the youngster.
Henrique has still three years left in his contract for Monaco. However, it is believed that the club has started to listing to offers for him. Monaco has valued the youngster at the range of €25-30 million after interest from Barcelona and PSG.
Barcelona looking at Henrique as an ideal replacement for Jordi Alba
Barcelona will be having a busy summer after the club president expressed his views about restructuring the club for the future. The Catalans have already announced three new signings ahead of the new season. The two former Barcelona players Eric Garcia and Royal Emerson are signed as the center-backs. While they have also found a no.9 as they signed Kun Aguero from Manchester City.
However, they are still looking for a new left-back ahead of the season. Barcelona wants to find a long-term replacement for Jordi Alba in the team. Despite going strong this season, the Spaniard is moving towards the end of his career.
The Catalans have already shortlisted some players such as Jose Gaya, Marcos Alonso, Robin Gosens, and Owen Wijndal. But now they have eyed for another player, who will be taking over the left-back positions. Barcelona have identified Caio Henrique as an ideal replacement for Jordi Alba I the team. But the Catalans need to hurry as PSG are also targeting the youngster this summer.
Following these transfer rumors the player has commented –
I am very calm with all this. I try not to get involved and concentrate only on the pitch and I leave it in the hands of my representatives.
He added, “Of course, it is a great pleasure to hear about these very important clubs, but I have my feet on the ground and I always try to do my best.”
If Barcelona really wants to sign the youngster as a replacement for Alba, then they need to hurry a bit. PSG might hijack this deal also as they did with Georginio Wijnaldum.
