Barcelona are now favourites to sign Manchester City star

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Barcelona are the first team reportedly contacting Sergio Aguero for a potential deal from Manchester City. The Cules are leading the race to sign him and Lionel Messi would be keen on playing alongside his Argentina teammate.

However, current coach Ronald Koeman wants Memphis Depay instead of him. The two players are considered as a backup signing for the dream signing of Laporta, Erling Haaland.

The Manchester club recently announced that Aguero might be having his last season at the club this season. Previously, former skipper Vincent Kompany and David Silva also left the club in 2019 and 2020, respectively. The former is currently coaching Belgian club, Anderlecht.

Barcelona frontrunners to sign Sergio Aguero on a free

As per the Spanish media outlet Marca, the 32-year-old striker has been dreaming of a move to the Catalan club. Thus, he prefers Spain over other interested candidates like PSG, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Manchester United, and Atletico Madrid.

However, a potential reunion with Atletico is still on the cards for the Argentine veteran.

“We have still two months ahead, and today I saw the training session how brilliant how we was and his commitment. Sergio is irreplaceable.” – Pep Guardiola said about his talent.

Messi wants Aguero at Barca but Koeman rejects the possibility of the deal!

Lionel Messi would be extremely happy if his friend, Sergio Aguero moves to Barcelona. However, as per the same above-mentioned source, Ronald Koeman doesn’t seem to approve the transfer. The coach prefers to bring Memphis Depay from Lyon instead.

Depay might suit better to Koeman’s system as he had played under him for the Netherlands national football team. Thus, the move of Depay would be surprisingly beneficial for the coach. But, Messi hasn’t renewed his contract and not signing Aguero might prove costly.

However, Aguero might make his way to the Blaugranas if they fail to sign their dream transfer of 20-year-old Erling Haaland.
