As Barcelona is looking for a new right back, Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard’s name has been regularly linked with them. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is currently in the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena. According to rumours, He wants to depart.

Barcelona will likely reinforce right back position by signing Benjamin Pavard

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich is ready to authorise Pavard’s departure this summer. The German champions, on the other hand, will expect roughly €30-40 million for the versatile defender. The necessity for a new right-back in Barcelona is self-evident. After getting by with Jules Kounde as the right-sided full-back during the 2022/23 season, the Blaugrana are eager to put money for a natural full-back, especially with the Frenchman unwilling to play that role.

A loan deal for Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo is thought to be the priority at Barça. However, the Premier League winners denied the Portuguese star’s loan move to Camp Nou in January. Moreover there is no certainty that they will allow a move this time.

As a result, Barcelona continues to keep an eye on alternative options, one of which being Pavard. However, the La Liga winners are not alone in their pursuit of the Frenchman, as Real Madrid also shows interest in the versatile full-back. Other clubs, like Manchester City and Manchester United, are said to be interested in Pavard. This is further complicating matters for Xavi Hernandez and co.

There’s also the question of whether Barcelona can afford to spend €30-40 million on Pavard while also trying to sign a pivot midfielder, a striker, and a left winger. As a result, making a move may appear tough at this point, but this could change if the Blaugrana are able to close a few exits in the coming weeks.
