Barcelona desperately wants to sell Ferran Torres to reduce wage bill

Barcelona plans to emphasise the sale of misfiring winger Ferran Torres in the summer transfer window, according to Mundo Deportivo’s Gabriel Sans. If offers worth €40 million emerge, the La Liga winners are willing to part ways with the Spaniard. Torres joined Barça in the winter transfer window of last year, signing from Manchester City for €55 million plus add-ons. However, his time in Catalonia has fallen short of expectations, as the 23-year-old has typically underperformed.

Barcelona could sell Torres in this summer to lower wage bill

A total of 14 goals in more than 70 matches are not enough for gaining interest. Torres is now ranked after Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Ousmane Dembele in the pecking order. With Vitor Roque on the way, Torres’ playing time might be cut even more. Hence Barcelona is looking to part ways with the Spanish international. However there are rumours that manager Xavi expects him to make a come back next season. According to the source, Barcelona expects to get roughly €40 million for the transfer of the former Manchester City and Valencia striker.

However Torres is unwilling to leave Barça and succeed. During the winter transfer window, the Catalans got an offer of roughly €60 million from Newcastle United for him. But he refused to leave and his attitude remains unchanged. The Blaugrana, on the other hand, are determined to get him off the books. In addition Barca’s goal is to perhaps replace Torres with Yannick Carrasco. The La Liga winners have obtained a €16 million buy option for the Atletico Madrid winger and are keen in obtaining his services, but not as a top priority.

FC Barcelona is dealing with the challenge of releasing undesirable talents during the next summer transfer window. Given the club’s continuous financial problems, the Blaugrana have decided to part ways with some of their undesirable stars in order to balance the books. Since joining the club in early 2022, the former Manchester City sensation has failed to live up to expectations. Given his failures, the club wants to get rid of him this summer, even if it means taking a low-ball offer.
