Barcelona has given Ilias Akhomach, the Barça B team’s player a chance to play under Xavi. The 18-year-old will join the team’s pre-season tour.
Who is Ilias Akhomach?
Ilias Akhomach is an 18-year-old Spaniard with Moroccan roots. Young talent is part of the Barcelona B team & has huge hopes to play a significant role in the senior team.
Akhomach, who played for the Moroccan U15 squad before transitioning to the Spanish junior team, already has created 3 starts for the first squad under Xavi after making his debut by playing against Espanyol in 2021.
Barca’s take on Akhomach
Barcelona has great expectations for the 18-year-old, who played 1,321 minutes last year in all events for both the senior squad and the Second team.
In fact, those were Barca’s ambitions that former manager Ronald Koeman himself was expected to include him for the offseason trip last summer. He lost out on the chance, though, when COVID-19 got ahead of the team.
What Xavi has in store
Xavi has maintained a close watch on his progress since his time with the B squad in the Primera Division RFEF last season when he netted the ball thrice in 15 appearances. In fact, the management has confirmed to Akhomach that he would feature in the Blaugrana affiliates in the upcoming season.
Should Barcelona consider Akhomach?
The one trait about the kid that has most struck people is his versatility in all offensive positions. The kid was used in three distinct roles throughout the 2021/22 campaign, even those on the other wing.
Barcelona is experiencing some serious winger crisis lately, while there is a promise, Ilias is a gem in the sand. Although making the senior squad is still a distant goal, the forthcoming camp will provide him with the experience he seeks.
