Barcelona has two options if they choose to sign Bernardo Silva

Bernardo Silva

Barcelona still hopes to sign Bernardo Silva as the preferred candidate for the midfield. Both Xavi and the Blaugrana board highly appreciate Bernardo. Earlier reports stated that a deal for Bernardo would mean the club has to sell Frenkie De Jong. The Barcelona board has been looking for ways to sell De Jong in this transfer market. Frenkie is the highest earner in the Barcelona squad. The club also owes him around 18 million in deferred salaries.

However, De Jong is adamant about staying in the club from the player’s side. He is motivated to be one of the essential parts of Xavi’s new project. Xavi like the player, but the board sees his sale as necessary to balance the economic aspect. President Laporta has, on numerous occasions, requested the player to take a pay cut in public. Laporta has also stated that selling De Jong is not a priority as he has a contract.

Barcelona has two options.

According to a report by Catalunya Radio, Barcelona has two options if they choose to launch a full offensive to sign Bernardo Silva.

The first option is the sale of Frenkie De Jong. Both Chelsea and Manchester United are interested in signing the Dutchman. The player would prefer a move to Chelsea if he wishes to leave Barcelona. Chelsea offers him the chance to play in the Champions League, which Manchester United cannot do. De Jong is also unsure about United’s project as he sees it as ‘unstable’.

The second option is selling Memphis Depay, Aubameyang, and Dest. This would enable the club to keep De Jong in the club. Memphis is already in talks with Juventus over a move. Dest was left out of the squad in the match against Rayo Vallecano. It is a clear message from Xavi, who doesn’t see Dest as a part of his project. The club is now looking for a new right-back in the market. Aubameyang has secured serious interest from Chelsea. Talks are underway with Aubameyang’s side and Chelsea on personal terms. Chelsea would place an official bid once personal negotiations are over. Barcelona is expecting a fee in the range of 25 to 30 million euros for the Gabon star. Xavi doesn’t want to let Auba leave. But a lot can happen until the end of the transfer window.

A trio of Bernardo, De Jong, and Pedri would be one of the best in Europe.
