Journalist Toni Juanmarti reports that Laliga champions FC Barcelona is close to sign 29-year-old Atletico Madrid left winger, Yannick Carrasco. Yannick Carrasco will leave Atletico Madrid for a fee of around €9 million this summer. The Belgian international has the ability to fill different roles and play at a high level. Barcelona definitely needs squad players like him to contend on multiple fronts.
Carrasco is keen to join Barcelona this summer
According to journalist Toni Juanmarti, Barcelona has reached complete agreement with Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco on a summer transfer. Since the January transfer window, the 29-year-old has shown interest for a move to Barça. The Blaugrana attempted to sign him during the winter as a replacement for Memphis Depay, who transferred to Atletico Madrid. However the deal fell through. But Barcelona was able to gain a purchase option for Carrasco worth €15-20 million, which they can exercise in order to sign him this summer. While they had obtained the purchase option, there were still a few concerns about a possible move for him.
However, according to Juanmarti, the La Liga champions have struck an agreement on Carrasco’s acquisition after being impressed by his performances in the second part of the 2022/23 season. This season, the Belgian has made 43 appearances across all competitions, scoring ten goals and setting up five others. His total is higher than that of Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres, who are rumoured to be leaving in the summer. As a result, Carrasco is the club’s top priority for strengthening the left flank this summer. Hence there is now unanimous agreement within the club regarding signing the Atletico Madrid winger.
However, Barcelona are not alone in their pursuit of the forward. The Belgian is receiving interest from Premier League clubs as well. However, it has already been certain that Carrasco will not listen to any proposals since he wants to join the Blaugrana. Hence Barcelona has an advantage in negotiations with Atletico Madrid.
Ez Abde is also an alternative at left wing position for Barca
New contacts have not yet been established between the two teams. But it appears that Barcelona will pursue Carrasco’s signing. However they will not pay the previously agreed-upon cost and will seek to negotiate a lower fee. If they are unable to sign the 29-year-old, Xavi Hernandez and co. may turn to Ez Abde as an alternative for the left wing.
