Barcelona keen on signing Juventus’ Dutch defender

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Barcelona are reportedly thinking about signing Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus. The 21-year-old defender hasn’t been impressive at the Turin club after being a leader at the Dutch club, Ajax.

The Old Lady has failed to defend their Serie A title and are fourth in the table level on points with 3rd placed Napoli and 5th placed AC Milan. Thus, the club’s form has frustrated the centre-back and the Catalan club might be the best choice so far.

Messi-led Barca earlier tried to convince him a move to Spain, however, Juventus were successful in signing him. However, his contract expires only after three years and his value is currently around €75 million.

A dream coming true for Matthijs de Ligt in the form of Barcelona move?

Matthijs de Ligt joined Juventus from Ajax during the 2019-20 season and has been one of the key figures in the defensive department. After a prolific season at Amsterdam, he opted to play for the Serie A club.

However, now it seems the reunion with his former teammate, Frenkie de Jong looks possible at Camp Nou. The La Liga heavyweights have been knocked out by PSG in the Champions League but are still clinging for a probable domestic double.

As per BarcaUniversal, the defender is “crazy” about this reunion. Joan Laporta would be keen on getting this deal done as well. Ronald Koeman also has been a huge fan of the youngster as he coached him for the Netherlands national football team. Koeman also supported him during the difficult times when he joined Juventus and was struggling initially.

The Blaugranas have signed Eric Garcia from Manchester City. They could be serious Champions League contenders if they succeed in signing de Ligt as well. Laporta has been looking forward to creating a squad for the future as Ansu Fati, Sergino Dest, Illaix Moriba, Pedri and Trincao are establishing themselves in the senior squad.
